In the first quarter of 2006 just under 350,000 (54%) households had access to the Internet, up 6 percentage points compared to the same period in 2005. As many as 75% of households with children and 47% of households without children had Internet access. Younger persons also influence the number of households with other information-communication technologies. The share of households with broadband Internet access increased to 34%, which is 15 percentage points more than in the same period in 2005. There were 54% of persons aged 10 to 74 in Slovenia who used the Internet in the last 3 months, an increase of 4 percentage points year-on-year. An overview of Internet users by frequency of Internet usage shows that the majority of them are daily users. In the 10-74 age group there were 37% daily Internet users in the first quarter of 2006, which is 9 percentage points more than in the same period in 2005. The share of Internet users increased in all age groups, but the difference between younger and older persons is still quite large. Some 81% of people in the 16-34 age group used the Internet in the last 3 months, while in the 35-54 age group the share was only 50%. There is also a significant difference between persons with low and high education. Among persons with a lower degree of education, only 39% used the Internet in the first quarter of 2006: among those with a higher degree of education the share was 90%. As many as 96% of enterprises with 10 or more employees had Internet access, which is the same as in the first quarter of 2005. The stagnation suggests that the majority of enterprises already have Internet access. 89% of enterprises with 10 or more employees used the Internet for banking and financial services, 73% monitored the market and 42% used the Internet for training and education of employees. Some 62% had a website, which is 3 percentage points more than in the same period last year (Source: Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia). |
